Maximizing Acupuncture

  1. Continue taking all medicines prescribed by your physician.
  2. Do not skip a meal to come to acupuncture. It is suggested that you eat a light meal an hour prior to a session (or a snack 30 minutes before) to avoid fainting, if session is near a meal time.  A major meal may be consumed two hours before or after a session without hampering progress.
  3. Try not to consume coffee a few hours before and up to six hours after a treatment.
  4. Avoid very hot, iced or frozen beverages for 2 hours after acupuncture.
  5. Avoid very hot or cold water from bathing or swimming for a few hours following your treatment.
  6. Do not use dry heat or steam saunas on acupuncture day.
  7. Stay away from alcohol or recreational drugs on your treatment day.
  8. Do not engage in sex or strenuous physical work/exercise for six hours after a session.
  9. Avoid chiropractic, physical therapy, massage on the day of your treatment.
  10. Do not take part in other energy-based exercise or treatments (tai chi, qigong, yoga, reiki etc.) for six hours after your treatment.
  11. Avoid unnecessary stress or confrontation after a treatment. Try to rest or at least to work in a relaxing manner for a number of hours following you session. And schedule in a full night’s sleep.
  12. Drink plenty of water for two days following your session.
  13. Most hospital testing or treatments may be scheduled a few hours prior to acupuncture, but not after your session.
